Loaded Mashed Potatoes

Here is a super easy and yummy re-supply recipe. You can usually find the three items you need in a medium-sized grocery store or a large convenience store.


  • 4 oz. package of instant mashed potatoes (any flavor)
  • 2-3 oz. package of fully-cooked, shelf-stable bacon -OR-
  • 2-3 oz. package of bacon jerky -OR-
  • 2-3 oz. real bacon bits
  • 2-3 oz. cheddar or colby jack cheese (3- 1oz. snack cheeses)

On-Trail Preparation

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Pour in potato flakes and stir. Break bacon and cheese into pieces and stir into potatoes. Allow cheese to melt. Eat! (1,030 calories)

This is actually enough for 2 meals for me, but most thru-hikers have no problem eating it all!
